Anne Arundel County CASA
Anne Arundel County CASA is an advocate for abused and neglected children in the foster care system. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. The environment for foster children is ever-changing and has very little stability. CASA volunteers act as the eyes and ears to report back to the magistrate to advocate for a safe and permanent home for the foster child. Typically, foster children with a CASA volunteer spend about half of the time in foster care and have better outcomes later in life than those without one. In Anne Arundel County, there are currently about 80 children CASA is serving and with our $10,000, they could serve 3 more!

Bo's Effort
Bo's Effort is an Anne Arundel County-based organization helping to break the stigma of mental illness. Bo was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2014 and lost his life to an accidental overdose in May 2015 at the age of 20. The DePaola family founded Bo's Effort in his honor to help those between the ages of 15-25 get the help they need to manage their illness and get back to living their life.

Backpack Buddies of Anne Arundel County
Backpack Buddies of Anne Arundel County is a local organization helping children attending Tyler Heights Elementary School. Kate Whitman, President, spoke about this generous organization. Backpack Buddies of AACo was one of the first organizations of its kind and currently serves 60-64 kids. With our donation, they will be able to expand their reach to help more children. Help for these children comes in the form of food, gift certificates for Thanksgiving, Christmas presents, clothes, books, toiletries, and much more. It is also an option within the organization to individually sponsor a child and build a long-lasting relationship.

Music 4 More
Music 4 More is a local organization established by Deidra Stevens in 2007. The organization collects instrument donations to reintroduce them into underfunded schools and communities. To date, Music 4 More has donated over 800 instruments. As a part of Music 4 More is Music 4 Vets--a program that donates instruments to music therapy programs for veterans and active military.

Olivia Constants Foundation
Olivia Constants Foundation is a local all-volunteer organization started in honor of Olivia Constants, a talented young 14 year old whose life was taken away on June 23, 2011 in a tragic sailing accident. The Foundation is driven by the qualities Olivia exhibited: sweet disposition, kindness, and love for others. Since the start of the Foundation 7 years ago, they have provided over 80 scholarships (~$250,000) to students purely based on their character. Our funds will go directly towards scholarships for local students.

Annapolis Immigration Justice Network
Annapolis Immigration Justice Network is a local all-volunteer organization started 18 months ago to help 'our immigrant neighbors in the greater Annapolis area.' This non-profit provides support to refugees, asylum seekers, and visa applicants by connecting them with the necessary legal services for the immigration process; helping with transportation to medical appointments, immigration hearings, and ICE check-ins; connecting them with local resources for food, housing, and clothing; and providing children with learning resources and educational opportunities. Our funds will go directly towards these efforts.

Haley's Helping Hands of Maryland
Haley's Helping Hands of Maryland was started by Haley Havard when she was just eleven years old to provide those in need with donated, gently-used clothing and shoes. She works directly with shelters in Maryland, and ships care packages out free of charge to individuals and families in need. She has recently started to provide sports scholarships and school supplies for area children as well. Our $10,000 donation has helped Haley reach her goal of shipping to over 365 families (over 8,500 items!) this year and shipping to every state! With your help, she was also able to supply local children in need with 10 field hockey sticks, 2 football scholarships, and 75 sets of school supplies. Next she is looking to fund ongoing sports scholarships with local teams and help families in need provide Christmas gifts for their children. Go Haley!

The Bernie House
The Bernie House is a local organization that provides transitional housing for families who have dealt with domestic violence. After leaving an abusive situation, a family can stay in a shelter for 90 days, but what happens after those three months? The Bernie House provides a stable living environment for a family while the parent works to get back on their feet and better their situation. The organization is in the process of finding another property within Anne Arundel County to serve as transitional housing and our donation will go towards this new Bernie House. Your donations to this organization will truly be life-changing for these families!

Services from the Heart

Our donation to the Backpack Buddies program will provide 84 children from food-insecure households in 3 different area schools with 13.5 weeks of food over the 2017-2018 school year. That equals 1,132 food backpacks with 6,800 meals and 3,400 snacks. Because of the security that our donation has provided, Backpack Buddies is now looking at serving children in another area school!
